If it weren't for the higher than market salary, I'd probably have quit about 1.5 years ago. My fingers can't type enough, lolĮDIT: I do this because I'm well compensated and my travel policy is "ok". I'm happy to share more as I've learned a lot about crazy travel, but in that case, PM me with your phone # and i'll call you. I know I like traveling, but it's getting/got to me. The others are many on here who have been doing this for decades and somehow can do it. And I'm going through a bit of an episode right now where I am seriously lonely out on the road and probably depressed. My drinking got to a point I HAD to quit. The loneliness in hotel rooms is getting to me. The points are sure great, but I went from "this is cool" to "ugh, another f***** idiot stopping in front me of at the airport, another plane, another etc etc". I have top tier status with all the hotel chains I want to be at, and pretty high status with Air Canada (i'm Canadian). I've been doing this for 3 years (late twenties). So I do about 200 nights in a row domestically, fly around 70 flights a year across Canada. Having worked overseas will also enhance your resume. Yes two weeks every quater might seem daunting but will not hurt much as wife is supportive.ĭown the road you will be able to take your wife and child with you to see India, an unforgettable experience. Thanks.Yes traveling gets old in a little while. Does it take a toll? Does it strain your marriage or relationship with children? Any/all insight is welcome Obviously this is my choice to make and nobody out there can make this decision for me, but i'd love to hear from some other people out there with similar levels of work travel. My wife is supportive if this is something I wish to do but with a 1 year old at home i'm a little nervous about being away for potentially weeks at a time (even if its only a once a quarter trip). Even if i'm visiting a new, exciting city i'd expect to be working all day, staying in a generic hotel and maybe only having a couple of hours of free time in the evening for dinner and i'd think a Sheraton is a Sheraton in Chicago, Chennai or Colombo and the same goes for an office. I am assuming the travel will get old very quickly. Would include both domestic travel for day trips or 1 night overnights as well as an occassional international trip (which could be a couple of weeks since i guess if you need to be in India for 2 workweeks theres really no point in flying back to NYC for the weekend). Theyve estimated 25-30% of the time on the road with the remainder wfh. Only thing that concerns me is the amount of travel. Unsure of total compensation at this time but the position sounds interesting and would be a nice step up. I'm expecting an offer this week on an exciting job opportunity.
